What is Chiaro Hobbyhorses?

Chiaro Hobbyhorses has existed since 2005, even tho it was only a hobby, a private hobbyhorse stable and under a different name back then. I started taking commissions in 2015, but have been making sale hobbyhorses for a few years before that. In 2022, I started to gather more products for my sale selection, mostly for hobbyhorse and tack materials. Currently, you can find a good selection of materials from fabrics to rhinestone chains. The selection will be expanded in the future. In 2025, Chiaro Hobbyhorses was established as a business. In September 2025, I opened the official webshop.

I'm crafting hobbyhorses with years of experience, and it's my day job. We have multiple sizes and price categories for ready-made hobbyhorses. On top of those, I make commissions (custom-made) so everyone can find a suitable hobbyhorse. For a commission hobbyhorse, you can choose the size you want, as well as the materials and details. Alongside hobbyhorses, I'm also making tack, both with sale and commission horses, and fully custom-made.

I've gathered a wide selection of craft materials. At this moment, you can find almost everything for making tack and different fabrics for making hobbyhorses.

Also, Chiaro Hobbyhorses shop includes patterns for different-sized hobbyhorses and also for some tack parts. We also have gift cards and miscellaneous products casually that are not always hobbyhorse-themed necessarily.

We've tried to keep the prices competitive in all categories. With many years of experience, my ways of crafting have formed quick and efficient, which allows the lower price points. All the prices include VAT 25,5%.

At the moment, sales are not in person. I'm planning on opening a little hobbyhorse boutique or making it possible to come shopping at my warehouse. Products are mostly sold online and shipped to the customer, but if you want, you can pick up your order from Jukaja 66470, FINLAND.

How did it all start?

I am Jaana, and I own the business. Nowadays, hobbyhorses are my full-time job. Hobbyhorses have been my hobby for twenty years. Early 2000s, when I was a child, hobbyhorses were just a play, but slowly it turned into a more serious hobby. In 2005, I established my first hobbyhorse stable under the name Ponilaakson talli (Pony Valley's stable). Back then, I mostly rode hobbyhorses and organized riding lessons for my friends. 2010s, the name changed to Kht Kytömäki shortly, and I started to make my first fabric hobbyhorses; I had only made sock horses before. After a few years, the name became Kht Chiaro when I started selling hobbyhorses more actively and also made them as commissions. Also, the popular hobbyhorse camps were organized during those most active hobby years. I'm planning on organizing more camps in the future. In the 2020s, the name was changed to be more international: Chiaro Hobbyhorses. After I reached adulthood in 2017, hobbyhorses were mostly a craft for me; I sold them, did YouTube and social media, and writing a hobbyhorse blog. After a lot of thinking, in 2025, I established a business called Chiaro Hobbyhorses (trade name), so hobbyhorses became my official full-time job.

Responsibility

Chiaro Hobbyhorses aims to be responsible and sustainable by choosing quality, long-lasting, and on the first hand domestic (Finnish) and European materials and businesses to gather materials. I try my best to get everything from small businesses if possible.
Read more: Origin of products.

We try to use the materials as effectively as we can, so there would be as little waste as possible. We use a lot of recycled materials for making tack, like metal parts, faux leather, or fabrics gotten from recycling centers or thrift stores. We also use materials I've gotten from my parents, grandparents, or my fiancé's grandparent. This way, the already bought materials are not being unused and go to waste. The origin of products list is made according to these.

I also restore and fix other makers' old, broken hobbyhorses. These horses are often available in my shop for lower prices. The product page tells you if it's a restoring project, and also mentions the original maker. This is a great way to give a new life to hobbyhorses who are in danger of being thrown away or recycled, or just unwanted ones. These projects also offer a chance to buy cheaper and different-looking than usual hobbyhorses from me.

With packing and sending orders, we reuse a lot of recycled materials and environmentally friendly packaging. Small orders, like metal parts and strass, are packed in the same ziplock, etc. bag to reduce plastic use. We use responsible domestic (Finnish), Nordic (PostNord), and worldwide (UPS) shipping companies.
